I have obviously been too busy with shutdowns to come on the forum enough to see this one - a snippet appeared on another thread, so time to search.Rockwell came out with this around June, and I found more info on the Knowledgebase. I have just sent a snotty email to my various Rockwell reps (sales/support/contract) to ask why they did not inform me, as it has been an issue I have been highlighting for at least a year, on service visits and also to the commercial engineers at Kiln Farm.Remind me why we pay them so much money for annual support? Yes, the RSLogix 5000 v20.04 release was a long time coming, but inevitable I feel.As for Studio 5000 v23.I hadn't got Studio 5000 v23 installed but needed it this week. I had Pro Edition v21, v24, v26 and v27 all installed. V23 would not install because v26 or v27 had installed newer versions of 'stuff'. So I had to uninstall both v26 and v27 (but not v24) just to install v23. When I then reinstalled v26 and v27 they would not Activate.
I said right, no messing around here with my precious time, and opened a Chat Session with Support.2 Days later (Monday and Tuesday of this week) and finally they got my Pro Edition Activated again. I then realized today that my serial number would now not qualify for updates and back I had to go. Three Support departments and Assistants later and finally they got that sorted, even though I think I figured it out for them in the end.Today I had endless DH-485 problems on an SLC network and a PV550 also died for good measure.I'm definitely having an 'Ailing Badley' week thus far.Regards,George. Ron,Funny you should mention it.This week I also had the pleasure of IT updating the same workstation to Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013.
These are automatic and forced updates done globally across all plants. It installed fine and apart from the 'Whitewash' that is Office 2013, it was working okay. After I uninstalled and reinstalled Studio 5000 versions I started getting some Visual Studio error about AppInstall.exe, etc. Which would keep popping up every 30 seconds or so. Something to do with Microsoft.NET, or other? So I then had to get onto the companies European Support department to sort it all out. This meant leaving the docked workstation to them for the day (yesterday) and I had use one of the other programming workstations which had not got Studio 5000 on it, just RSLogix 5000 up to v20.
I really needed it live on the floor to make some additions and edits to a running v23 system. So instead I had to write some programming in RSLogix 5000 offline and then import it to the v23 Studio 5000 project later when they were finished.Another thing I've since noticed is that my RSLogix 500 Pro Edition v9 is now opening and Activating as Standard Edition. This is similar to what went on with Studio 5000 Pro only Activating as Mini Edition. So I'm not finished yet it seems? But it's Friday and nearly home time. So I'll park this week and all its shenanigans to one side for now.Regards,George. And/or a forum message. THAT WAY, when an update is posted, you get an email from the Knowledgebase. You'd be amazed at how many windows-related problems we don't have!More time for focussing on the more interesting problems like 'why is the knowledge base not working AGAIN?!' Well, unfortunately, this workstation happens to be one of two Enterprise workstations I have docked on my desk. So it is really one of 'theirs' that I decided to install RA software on and use. Yes, I'm a fool. This workstation is technically assigned to me as I'm the Barcoding Administrator, which is one of my many roles.
Think Server driven, plantwide scanning and label printing. We used to use Intermec equipment up to last year until we switched to a new contract with Motorola and Zebra printers. (I was very interested reading your recent threads on using these printers with Logix controllers). All of our barcoding software is installed on this workstation. The old stuff gave terrible trouble as it was heading for 30 years old so the last workstation got a lot of use on the floor with locked up forktruck terminals, dodgy wireless access points, printers dumping their Mask files from memory, etc.But the new stuff just runs so well that the new leased barcoding workstation is otherwise gathering dust these days. So I decided to put it to good use. Besides, if I don't login often enough and use it they'll know and I'll end up losing it at the end of the lease period without a replacement. The other leased Enterprise workstation is purely for office work, emails, spreadsheets, Internet, file sharing and since last week, daily Chat Sessions with my good old friends in RA.We have two other dedicated non-Enterprise programming laptops which we purchased ourselves, so no (sh)IT can come in contact with them.
I have been meaning to install Studio 5000 on one of them as well but haven't crossed that bridge yet.All is well again with Office and RA on that workstation. I just need to sort the Activation for RSLogix 500 Pro, which is really an RA issue and not IT's, I think? If I have time this week I might just reinstall v9 again and see what happens?Regards,George.
